Puerto Armuelles Ladies Lunch

Bethany, Elsie, & Liz @ Ladies Lunch in Puerto Armuelles

We all had a very enjoyable time at a “Ladies Lunch” that Liz organized .

It all began as a way to commemorate the one year anniversary of the death of Elsie’s husband.

It evolved into a lunch for a small group of ex-pat and Panamanian women (including myself).

We were lucky that Puerto Armuelles newest restaurant, The Watering Hole, opened just the week before.

[UPDATE:  The Watering Hole is no longer open. For other places to eat in Puerto Armuelles go here]

Just in time for Carnival – and for us.

Unfortunately, the gas line in their kitchen was being installed at the same time as our gathering.

This delayed service and the full menu was not available.

Regardless, it is great to have a new place to eat in Puerto Armuelles.

Amy, formerly a US Marine, owns and operates the restaurant.

Mauro is the chef. Mauro has a great energy and is an excellent cook. (Mauro is also Amy’s boyfriend.)

It was wonderful to have an excuse to gather and catch up with folks.

The weather was glorious.

The views of the beach were stellar.

The fisherman we could see fishing seemed to find it a profitable day as well.

Thank you Liz for making the event happen.

Puerto Armuelles is blessed by Liz’s kind-hearted energy and love of people.

  1. I put together and organized the “Ladies Luncheon” and everyone had a wonderful time. I think we should do it at least once a month. However, the restaurant was not prepared and ready to open even though I previously given them a head count of how many would be attending. I was sadly disappointed. Everyone said their food was great but mine never came and then they brought me a fish dish which I don’t order and I don’t even like fish, so I sent it back. Finally they did bring me my correct order but it was as everyone was paying to leave! So they wrapped it to go. Then they charged me full price! Needless to say I will not be back until they work out the bugs and the staff is better trained. I agree Maurico, the chef is excellent! His cooking is one of the best I’ve ever eaten. I wish them much success. It’s just what Puerto Armuelles needed.

    • Liz, yes I felt badly when I learned you had not been served when the rest of us were.
If I had known I would have shared my lunch with you!

Like you I hope that is was just a product of being a young restaurant.

We are in the states now, but I know Amy and Maurico were retooling their restaurant – including offering pizza.
Their intention was to offer various pizza starting in early July.
I tried a sample of it at the party for Ron at your house, and I thought it was good.

When we get back to Puerto Armuelles, we will check out their updated selections. And let you know about service.
Although you will have heard about it from others by then.

We are having a great time visiting friends and family along the west coast of the US. But we are eager to return to our life in Puerto.

      Enjoy!

  2. Enjoyed this article. My husband and I are coming to the western highlands, for 2 weeks. Arrive November 26 and return to the states December 10. We are thinking of moving to Panama. We are both retired. We visited the Azeuro last February. My husband spent some time in Pedasi this past June. Now we are looking your way. Perhaps we will meet up with some of you while in the area.
