  1. Hi there! Thanks for the great and informative article.
I am a Canadian wanting to open a personal account in Panama. Is there a Canadian service that I could pay to do this for me? Can i do this all remote or do I have to fly to Panama in person?
Maybe like Jocelyn said, I should open a Scotia bank account in Canada first and then the adjoining account in panama?

Thanks for any guidance!! xo 🙂

    • Hi Christa,

As a Canadian, you aren’t going to have many obstacles to opening a bank account as Americans can have.
If you have, or are in process, of getting residency you should be able to open it fairly easily. Just
make sure you have all the paperwork they ask for and turn it in all at once.

But if you are thinking of opening an account with Scotia bank anyway, it certainly may speed things up for you.

      Best wishses

    • Hi Marie,
I am not sure. I would talk with the bank to find out. I am not sure if FATCA requires that banks report on the bank accounts of its legal residents as well. But it probably does, which means you would have to deal with any rules Scotia Bank has regarding USA residents in Panama.

    • Hi le son,

Keep in mind that not all visa require you to have money in a bank. As for the best bank, I cannot answer that. It depends up where you will be living and what your requirements are. For instance, you may want to choose a bank which has a branch in the area where you will be living.

How do you get money into your account in the bank in Panama from USA?

    • Almost all banks transfer money internationally. Simply ask for thier international wire informatiion.
There will be a charge – possibly from each bank (USA and Panama). Paypal now transfers money internationally
to bank accounts, including ones in Panama, for a lower charge than banks.
